17 Oct 3 Things To Do in Central Park in the Fall
Central Park in the Fall: How To Spend Your Time
Fall is here and we’re ready to enjoy everything it has to offer, especially in places like New York City! There’s an atmosphere on the northeast coast during the fall season that just cannot be found anywhere else in the US, so it’s no surprise that so many people want to experience it for themselves! NYC has so much to offer and Central Park in the fall is no exception. Check out these three Central Park activities you won’t want to miss during your next autumn getaway.
Leaf peeping
There’s just something about the leaves changing in New York City and one of the top Central Park activities is experiencing the fall colors! There are so many areas of Central Park that offer breathtaking views of the fall foliage. Whether you decide to explore independently or utilize any of the local fall foliage tours available, there are a few spots you should stop to take beautiful photos and enjoy the scenery:
- The Pool
- The Mall
- The North Woods
- The Conservatory Garden
- The Ramble
- The Pond
- The Reservoir
- Belvedere Castle
- Harlem Meet
The Pumpkin Flotilla
If you visit New York City just a few days before Halloween, you have the chance to participate and/or see the Halloween Pumpkin Flotilla. This long-standing tradition the Conservancy has been putting on for almost 30 years! Once known as the “Pumpkin Sail”, a formation of pumpkins carved and donated by New York City residents, are cast out in the Harlem Meer for all to see.
In addition to the flotilla, the Conservancy also hosts a variety of other family-friendly activities in the days leading up to Halloween like a trick-or-treat scavenger hunt, “spooky” entertainment, Halloween-inspired crafts, and much more. It’s a must-see for families who love the spirit of this holiday!
Picnic in the park
Another affordable Central Park activity that is perfect for the fall season is a picnic! Not only do you get to see all of the beautiful leaves while enjoying your meal of choice, but the weather on the northeast coast during the fall cannot be beat. Set up a blanket, find a table, or even just lounge in the grass. It’s a simple activity but it is always a memorable one! Some favorite picnic spots include:
-
- The Great Lawn (between 79th and 85th Streets)
- Belvedere Castle (at 79th Street)
- Bow Bridge (at 72nd Street)
- The Pool (between W. 100th and W 103rd Streets)
- Sheep Meadow (between W. 66th and W. 69th Streets)
