With so many Maui beaches to choose from, which ones do you want to make sure you visit? Here are five of the best beaches in Maui you definitely want to try on your next Hawaiian vacation.
Ka’anapali Beach
Ka’anapali Beach is one of the best and most popular Maui beaches for good reason! Located on West Maui, Ka’anapali Beach is located near the Whalers Shopping Village and many great bars and restaurants.
The beach itself has lifeguards on duty from 8 AM to 4 PM and has public restrooms and showers on-site. This family-friendly shoreline is great for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing. Plus, you can head out from Ka’anapali Beach for a variety of excursions like a sunset or snorkel cruise, parasailing, or kayaking.
Honolua Bay
Also located on West Maui is the sparkling Honolua Bay. This vibrant and colorful beach is located just 20 minutes north of the popular town of Lahaina. It is best known for being a top spot for surfing and snorkeling, but be sure you’re confident swimming because there is not a lifeguard on duty.
If you’re not much of an experienced surfer, Honolua Bay is also great for sunbathing and making sandcastles with the kids. Nearby, you’ll find scenic golf courses and a number of popular bars and restaurants to visit after your day on the beach.
Kapalua Bay
Kapalua Bay is a much more private and tranquil beach on the island of Maui. It is located on West Maui just outside the major resort and condo communities. Even though it’s more secluded, the beach is still open to the public. Kapalua Bay has been called the “Best Beach in the World” by Conde Nast and the “Best Beach in America” by the Travel Channel.
The bay area offers public restrooms and showers for your convenience. It is a wonderful area for snorkeling and is a very kid-friendly beach. Additionally, you may just catch a glimpse of the Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles!
Hamoa Beach
On the other side of the island, you’ll find the gorgeous Hamoa Beach. This beach is situated just past Mile Market 51 on Hana Highway 31. There is a hotel right on the beach so parts of the beach and certain facilities are only accessible to the guests. This beach is great for relaxing and enjoying the warm sunshine.
This is a great family-friendly beach for a variety of water activities including swimming, surfing, snorkeling, and paddle boarding. Nearby, you can find lush rainforests, art galleries, museums, and the Pools of ‘Ohe’o.
Ho’okipa Beach Park
Last on the list of Maui beaches is Ho’okipa State Beach Park. Located on North Maui, Ho’okipa State Beach Park is best known for being a hot spot for water sports. The most popular activities include swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, and paddle boarding.
Lifeguards monitor the waters from 8 AM to 4 PM. This beach is great for families and kids, and you may even see some of the beautiful Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles. After a day at the beach, head to Historic Paia Town for great food, shopping, and art galleries.
