Top 5 Things To Do in the Bahamas
The Bahamas is a beautiful Caribbean vacation destination with activities for people of all ages. Between the pristine beaches, friendly locals, and great year-round weather, the possibilities are endless! But, how do you figure out what to fit into your busy schedule? Don’t worry, even though there are so many fun things to do in the Bahamas, we have a few excursions you’ll want to be sure to work into your trip:
1. Atlantis Paradise Island
Situated on Paradise Island, Atlantis is the Bahamas’ most well-known attraction. The ocean-themed resort offers more than just a luxurious place to lay your head at night— there are also dozens of activities and amenities offered across the spacious property.
There are several amenities that both guests and the public can utilize including Dolphin Cay and Marine Adventures, shopping, a casino, an 18-hole golf course, and the amazing Aquaventure Waterpark. This waterpark includes over 20 swimming areas, 14 unique pools, multiple waterslides, the Rapids River, and so much more.
2. Lucayan National Park
Located in Grand Bahama, Lucayan National Park is a 1,937-acre park that is known widely for being home to one of the world’s longest charted underwater cave systems with two caves open to the public. These caves were once used by Arawak natives, also referred to as Lucayans, as a source of fresh water and a ceremonial burial place.
In addition to these magnificent caves, guests have over 40 acres of land to explore that includes sights like mangrove creeks, coral reefs, pine forests, native animals, and the world-famous Gold Rock Beach.
3. Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park
176 miles in size, this National Park was the first land and sea park in the world and continues to be one of the most successful parks to date. This protected marine area has the second-largest coral barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere and is famous for its unspoiled snorkeling and diving opportunities.
If there’s anywhere in the Bahamas you’ll be able to see the islands and the best of its natural beauty, it’s here. Visit the swimming pigs, swim with the fish (and maybe even some sharks!), walk some of the most breathtaking beaches, and experience the beautiful mangroves.
4. Snorkeling on Andros Island
Andros Island is an archipelago within the Bahamas and is the largest of the Bahamian Islands. With a small population, fewer tourists, and the third-largest barrier reef in the world, Andros Islands has proven itself time and time again to be an immaculate place to try out some world-class snorkeling.
Some must-see snorkeling spots include Liben’s Point Central Park, China Point, Trumpet Reef, Red Shoal, Solarium, and The Compressor. There are even more places you’ll find beautiful creatures like tropical fish, lobster, and stingrays, but these are just a few of our fan favorites!
5. Queen’s Staircase
In Nassau, visitors will find the Queen’s Staircase, also referred to as the 66 Steps. The Queen’s Staircase is a major landmark located in the Fort Fincastle Historic Complex. Created out of solid limestone rock by slaves between 1793 and 1794, this staircase created a direct route from Fort Fincastle to Nassau City.
At the staircase and within the historic complex, you can learn more about the people of the Bahamas, the island’s vast history, and the impacts these events had on the country today. Not only is the staircase stunning, but it gives visitors a new perspective on how these islands have come to be.
